IMT Interview Course Overview

Our IMT Interview Preparation Course provides structured, practical preparation for both stations of the Internal Medicine Training interview. You will learn how to structure strong answers, demonstrate your suitability for IMT and approach clinical, ethical and professional scenarios with confidence.

Station 1 - Application, suitability for IMT, ethics, and professionalism

We cover the key question types and scenarios you may face, including:

  • Presenting your application, experience and achievements effectively
  • Demonstrating your motivation and suitability for Internal Medicine Training
  • Discussing clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, leadership and teamwork
  • Approaching ethical and professional scenarios involving consent, capacity, confidentiality, mistakes and reflection
  • Managing safeguarding concerns and challenging professional situations
  • Structuring clear, focused answers under interview conditions

Station 2 - Clinical scenarios, communication and handover

Clinical knowledge alone is not enough to perform well at interview. We focus on how to analyse an unfamiliar scenario, identify what the assessors are looking for and communicate your clinical reasoning clearly and confidently under interview conditions.

You will learn how to:

  • Quickly identify the key issues and priorities within an IMT clinical scenario
  • Structure your response so your clinical reasoning is clear and easy for the interviewers to follow
  • Demonstrate safe prioritisation, escalation and decision making without simply listing everything you know
  • Explain investigations and management decisions concisely and justify your choices
  • Recognise the additional professional, communication and patient safety issues hidden within clinical scenarios
  • Deliver a clear, structured handover within the time available
  • Avoid common approaches that weaken otherwise good clinical answers
  • Practise your technique using IMT style scenarios and receive personalised feedback on your performance

The aim is not to reteach clinical medicine. It is to help you turn the clinical knowledge and experience you already have into a structured, high quality interview performance.

Throughout the course, the emphasis is on practical IMT interview preparation, giving you clear frameworks that you can adapt to different questions rather than relying on scripted answers.

Why our IMT Interview Preparation course works

Turn your knowledge into a strong interview performance

Knowing the answer and delivering a strong interview answer are not the same thing. Most IMT candidates already have the clinical knowledge and experience expected at their stage of training. The challenge is selecting what matters, structuring your response quickly and communicating your reasoning clearly under pressure.

Our IMT Interview Preparation Course helps you turn your existing knowledge and experience into focused, structured and convincing interview answers.

Preparation specifically for the IMT interview

This is not a generic medical interview course adapted for IMT. The course focuses specifically on the Internal Medicine Training interview, with preparation for the question types, scenarios and competencies you may encounter across both stations.

You will develop practical frameworks that help you approach unfamiliar questions confidently, rather than learning scripted answers that may not fit the scenario you are given.

Designed and overseen by experienced NHS consultants

Our course is designed and overseen by experienced NHS consultants who regularly sit on IMT interview panels. Their experience helps candidates understand what interviewers are looking for, where otherwise strong answers can lose impact and how to communicate their experience and judgement more effectively.

Small groups, practice and personalised feedback

We limit each course to a maximum of 8 candidates, creating time for genuine interaction, practical interview exercises and individual feedback.

You will have opportunities to practise structuring and delivering answers, receive constructive feedback and learn by observing how other candidates approach the same challenges

Build a technique you can use on the day

The aim is not to give you a collection of model answers to memorise. It is to give you a repeatable approach for analysing questions, organising your thoughts and delivering clear, confident answers when faced with the unpredictability of a real IMT interview.

Ready to put your IMT interview preparation into practice?

Develop the structure, confidence and interview technique to turn what you know into a strong IMT interview performance.
