Duration: 9:30- 5:30 Participants: 15 max Venue: London/Birmingham Cost: £150
CONTENT OF THE COURSE
The course consists of a mix of activities, ranging from interactive discussions to small group workshops and personal practice by being challenged throughout the day in conditions replicating interview situations.
Throughout the day, you will improve your interview technique by learning:
how to enrich the content of your answers and structure them to maximise their impact
how use effectively the opportunity that each question gives you to sell yourself.
how to deliver answers that sound unrehearsed to give a favourable impression.
how to answer questions of different natures, including:
-
Questions relating to your Personal Statement (Why Medicine, tell us about yourself, your work experience, hobbies, etc)
-
Questions relating to your general skills (ambition & motivation, communication skills, team playing ability, management & leadership skills, teaching skills, your strengths, handling stress, etc)
-
Negative or incriminating questions (main weaknesses, what makes you angry, working with difficult people)
-
Ethical questions and difficult scenarios (liver transplant for an ex-alcoholic, fertility treatments, should the NHS treat patients with self-inflicted diseases, patients refusing treatment, etc)
-
Questions testing your breadth of interest and personal insight (Why do most doctors not wear white coats, what is the difference between medicine now and 100 years ago, should the NHS fund alternative medicines, etc)
-
Recent developments and changes in the NHS
- Current issues
Because we limit the number of participants to 15, each participant has multiple opportunities to learn by discussing individual questions with others, by listening to their colleagues' performance and by practicing their own answers. All courses are based the most commonly asked questions at real medical interviews around the country over the past twelve months.
"I finally found out where I went wrong last year thanks to the course and all the questions we worked on came up. And I got the place...!"
